Overview

Cessna built 359 Citationjets before that model was replaced by the CJ1 and CJ2, of which the company has built more than 160 and 200 respectively. The Citation CJ3 was announced September 2002 at the NBAA convention in Orlando Florida. In April 2003, Cessna Aircraft Company received written approval confirming that the Cessna Citation CJ3 had been granted an exemption in the part 21 commuter category turboprop limitation (14 CFR Part 23) to a jet weighing more than 12,500 pounds. This exemption allowed Cessna to certify the Citation CJ3 under similar rules as the CJ1 and CJ2, including the ability to obtain single pilot certification. The CJ3 accommodates up to 6 passengers arranged ina club style seating configuration. The CJ3's cabin has been extended 23 inches longer than that of the CJ1 or CJ2, providing extra leg room for the passengers. The CJ3 employs a pair of Williams Rolls-Royce FJ44-3A turbofan engines rated at 2,820lbs. of thrust each. The engines have an inspection interval of 4,000 hours.
